Darkmoon's Curse

"The once peaceful land of Karazan is deeply troubled. Its king lies dead, the victim of an Orcish arrow; the evil wizard Darkmoon has stolen the king's crown and now the heir to the throne, Prince Goldhawk himself, has been poisoned.

YOU have been called to this troubled land by Marris the court magician. Your task is to return the king's crown to Castle Karazan. Orlando, the Tin Pig, is your only traveling companion. Edge, the Sword, is your only weapon. Many will try to stop you, some may help you. But no matter who, or what, stands in your way, you must succeed.

This is a book you can read and play at the same time. To start your adventure you will need a pencil, eraser and two dice. To complete it, you will need to be clever, brave and lucky! A magical and fantastic adventure awaits those brave enough to accept this challenge."

This series of books is written by Ian Livingstone and illustrated by the popular artist Russ Nicholson.

The Adventures of Goldhawk series consisted of four books in total: Darkmoon's Curse, The Demon Spider, Mudworm Swamp, and lastly the Ghost Road. In each of these Gamebooks apart from the regular series of adventures, 'You' uniquely assume for the first time in the FF series, the role of a hero with a name: Goldhawk, the King of Karazan.

On the quest you take up, you are accompanied by Orlando, a once-dwarf now turned tin pig, and Edge, a talking sword. In these books you journey across Karazan to stop the evil wizard Darkmoon (Darkmoon's Curse), defeat the Demon Spider and the Skeleton Army that is invading your kingdom (The Demon Spider), conquer the mudworm and eventually find a cure for the poison that Darkmoon had inflicted on your court wizard, Marris (Mudworm Swamp), and stop Darkmoon from marrying Jet, a demonic wizadress (Ghost Road).

The Demon Spider

The Gamebooks themselves are less complex and more linear than the later FF books and seem to be aimed at a younger market and age group. Despite this they are an enjoyable introduction to the FF series and worthy of tracking down if you can get hold of them to read.
