Not quite news but a few stories to tell. I am attending Comic Con in Bournemouth on Saturday as a member of the Crew. I got the gig through a fellow fan, Fred Knitty and it also turns out that Lew Stringer will be there. Lew is famous for Derek the Troll in the original Warlock magazine. I'm not supposed to but I hope to get a sneaky autograph from him for the collection. This week I had friends around for supper, seeing that there two boys (8 and 12) were bored I asked if they liked reading and had they heard of Fighting Fantasy. Not surprisingly they hadn't but all the same they became very interested in all the books and my wider collection. I ran through the basics and got them hooked. I gave one The Warlock of Firetop Mountain and the other chose Caverns of the Snow Witch. Both sat down with dice, a piece of paper and a pencil and began playing the books. I am pleased to say that both requested to keep the books and of course I agreed. The moral of the story is that it is never too late or you are never too old to enjoy a classic Fighting Fantasy gamebook. I personally think that there is still mileage in visiting Schools to market the books as I am sure some parents would welcome reading over electronic games, however I would not want to cross Ian Livingstone over his digital agenda.

Dragonmeet 2015 is being held on Saturday 5th December at the IBIS HOTEL EARLS COURT & ILEC CONVENTION CENTRE in London.

The guest list is yet to be confirmed but it is hoped that Steve Jackson, Ian Livingstone and Jonathan Green will be in attendance. At the very least The Warlock will be manning a Fighting Fantasy stand with books for sale and hopefully if the Titan Gods work in your favour, there will be book signing sessions as well.

More updates soon or go to the Dragonmeet website to find out more.

If you have not done so already you simply must obtain a copy of YOU ARE THE HERO: A History of Fighting Fantasy Gamebooks by Jonathan Green. It is packed full of facts, pictures and stories to keep you entertained for hours. Here is a quote by Ian Livingstone from the book...

"Writing Gamebooks is a lot harder than people might imagine. The first job is to come up with a good plot, then the 'boss' adversary has to be created and all the creatures to be encountered along the way. Next is the map and devising imaginative ways of luring people down passageways to their 'death'. That was a lot of fun and used to make me laugh to myself as I wrote the paragraphs. People assume we use some sort of template and fill in the boxes. It is anything but that. I always constructed the flowcharts by hand, crossing off the 400 paragraphs as I wrote. Then the manuscript, which I wrote by hand, had to be checked for accuracy, difficulty, balance, numbers and consistency. It was, and still is, very challenging to write a gamebook, but at the same time very rewarding when it's done"

Have you ever tried to write your own gamebook? Give it a try and send your submissions to The template you should use can be found here and if you need help in getting started read our advice here.

Did you know that the first ever book, The Warlock of Firetop Mountain written by both Steve Jackson and Ian Livingstone was first published in 1982 and the last book, Curse of the Mummy written by Jonathan Green at number 59 ended the original series of green spines in 1995. This book is one of the most sought after Gamebooks in the collection. But that is not all.

In 2005 Eye of the Dragon by Ian Livingstone was published after a 10 year hiatus. Bloodbones by Jonathan Green followed in 2006. Bloodbones was actually destined to be book 60 in the original series but that was never realised and didn’t see the light of day for a decade. Jonathan Green then followed up with 3 more books: Howl of the Werewolf (2007), Stormslayer (2009) and Night Necromancer (2010). The last book in the series thus far is Blood of the Zombies by Ian Livingstone and published in 2012, it marks the 30th Anniversary of the series. Have you read all 65 titles yet?

Fingers crossed this is not the last and rumour has it a new book will be released to mark the 40th Anniversary in 2022! If you cannot wait until then, start your adventure now and get reading the best and most famous gamebook series ever.

Lands of adventure!

The world of Titan is an extremely dangerous place. Mankind and its allies huddle in fortified settlements, for beyond castle walls the wild lands stretch across three continents. Out in the wastelands, Orc tribes war with each other for dominance, Savage monsters roam at will in search of food. Evil sorcerers ready their inhuman armies for battle. No one, surely, would venture out into such inhospitable places - unless the rewards were so great a hero couldn't possibly refuse.

Part story, part game, Fighting Fantasy is a book with a difference - one in which YOU become the hero! Armed with two dice, a pencil and an eraser, you can set off on a perilous quest. YOU will need to decide which route to follow, and which monsters to fight using the elaborate combat system. You may not survive your first journey. But with experience, skill and luck, each fresh attempt should bring you nearer to your great goal.

In Titan the month of Fire has started and today, the third day of the Allansian week, is Fireday. This is fitting since it is deemed to be one of the hottest days this year.

By way of an update, Tin Man Games are continuing to work on the Warlock of Firetop Mountain app and Greywood Publishing are planning to launch the Kickstarter campaign for the much anticipated Fighting Fantasy Quest card game, starting with The Warlock of Firetop Mountain, followed by Deathtrap Dungeon, Forest of Doom, House of Hell and City of Thieves. Fingers crossed as well that the Kickstarter backed Trolltooth Wars Graphic Novel is well underway for release later this year.

Whilst we wait for all this to be released it is worth passing the time by downloading the new Inkle app, Sorcery! 3 - The Seven Serpents.

The Warlock struck lucky on Saturday. On one of his adventures hunting down the tomes of Jackson and Livingstone he managed to locate no less than 38 books in his haul. It is rare to achieve such a feat especially since a few rare gems were discovered. In particular, Allansia, that is much sought after amongst fellow adventurers and treasure collectors. Amongst them were books of another world by a fellow teller of stories but it would be remiss of me to mention the author here out of respect and loyalty to this brand. Nonetheless, these books and some of the original Fighting Fantasy books will become available to the marketplace once the inventory has been completed in pursuit of the ultimate collection.
